Being board certified by both the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine, one can feel comfortable knowing that he is amply qualified and experienced at what he loves to do - to treat his patients as he would like to be treated himself with kindness and compassion. His uncle, Francis Tenczar Jr, MD, and father, Theodore Tenczar, MD, were also physicians. Theodore practiced as a general surgeon and Francis as a pathologist.

Dr. Alan went to Gordon Technical High School then moved to Des Moines, Iowa where he received his undergraduate degree in Pharmacy from Drake University, in the class of 1979. Thereafter, he worked as a registered pharmacist through podiatric medical school graduating from the Dr. Wm. M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, Chicago, Illinois in 1983. He continued his education with a two-year surgical residency at Franklin Boulevard Community Hospital in Chicago. Upon completion in 1985, he worked temporarily in Chicago for a few months then moved to Scottsdale, Arizona to further gain practical knowledge from Dr. Gerald Quinlan. In 1988, he returned to Chicago to establish his private practice. Since 1996, he has been established at his present location at the professional building at Resurrection Medical Center. He is also on active staff at St. Mary's and Elizabeth Hospital.

Dr. Alan has a wide variety of interests especially reading arcane history. His hobbies include flying as an instrument rated private pilot; Pacific salmon fishing; and SCUBA diving. As a child he enjoyed repairing, rebuilding and remodeling structures and machines. He prides himself at having a talent at understanding mechanical objects, and an ability to repair things. Today, he has extended this talent to treating feet.
